Q: Does my Homeowners Insurance cover my bicycle?

A: In some situations it may cover your bicycle. Some homeowner policies may cover your bicycle as long as it is scheduled on to your policy with an added premium. However, it may not cover damage to your bicycle or allow theft away from your home. It would not cover you in the event that you were struck by an uninsured or underinsured driver or a hit and run driver. You may also have to pay the deductible which could cost you more than it would to insure your bicycle under a GoBike bicycle insurance policy. We recommend that you read your homeowners policy to ensure that you have the coverage that you need.

Q: Does my auto insurance policy cover me?

A: Yes. In some instances it will cover you, but it may not cover property damage or theft of your bicycle. You may also have to pay the deductible, which could cost you more than it would to insure your bicycle under a GoBike bicycle insurance policy. We always recommend that you read your auto policy or talk to your agent to ensure that you have sufficient coverage.

Q: Will making a claim on my homeowners and auto insurance policies increase my insurance premiums?

A: It may indeed affect your rates at renewal. It is different with many carriers.

Q: Will I have to pay my homeowner’s or auto insurance deductible when making a claim?

A: Yes. Whether you have a standard or a disappearing deductible any out of pocket dollar amount or the reduction in claim payout will be equal to the deductible amount. For this reason a standalone bicycle insurance program with a simple $100.00 deductible may be a better option.

Q: What if my bicycle is stolen?

A: File a police report at the very least. Ensure that you collect all relevant information regarding the theft. Keep any evidence that may help to support your claim eg. photos of the location or broken lock etc.
